The Return Of Vinyl
If you have not seen, vinyl has made quite the return the past few years. More and more we see independent stores, internet sellers, and party DJ’s returning to classic vinyl. The Recording Industry Association of America has even released statements saying more music lovers have purchased vinyl record albums in one recent year than they have in almost 20 years. The sales of vinyl albums continue to increase across the globe in big numbers. Why the comeback? Consumers young and old find themselves going back to the classic vinyl format for a long list of reasons. Sometimes it seems with all this accelerated technology, it makes us want to go back to the past.
Sound is a big reason vinyl music are making a resurgence. The most important thing when it comes to music is sound quality. The caliber of analog sound over digital is favored by DJ’s and music fans everywhere. Record albums are recorded using analog procedures. CD and iPod music is compressed and digitized. The main problem is that the human ear hears in analog, making vinyl records clearer than the newer digital formats. Professional DJ’s will often be seen using records during a big event for clearer sound quality. That and of course spinning albums just looks cooler.
Legendary musicians’ vinyl music are now considered collector items. It is big business to discover and own vinyl by these legendary bands. Music labels and new artists can learn from the past by understanding that vinyls become collector items, garnering big money. Huge profits are made in the business of buying and selling vinyl. Some vinyl records maintain their value for a long time and can sell for thousands of dollars. New artists are beginning to record their music on multiple platforms. This is a unique way to connect with fans as well as being a smart business move. Collecting can also be a fun hobby and a way to bring back timeless memories that other forms cannot. It seems unlikely that in 50 years music lovers will be collectors of digital music.
No other format besides vinyl albums can create memories and experiences. There is nothing like heading into an independent record store and spending hours sorting through music. The artwork on albums allows artists to get really original with how they want to express and represent themselves. Sometimes you will make a purchase depending on an album’s artwork. Music lovers are missing out on the experience with today’s quick technology. Unlike the isolation created by headphones and an iPod, records on a record player creates a shared experience. Sitting around with your loved ones sharing music will be something you will remember for the rest of your days.
