Outstanding Cello Lessons For Children
Children are greatly interested in things that are new to them. They are always adventurous when it comes to trying out new things. Their mind absorbs almost everything that is introduced to them. In this early stage, it is advisable to teach them skills such as playing the cello because it promotes creativity and enhances rhythmic skills at their young age.
Cello lessons for children should be a fun experience. It should have enough grasp of their interest to ensure successful learning. Take the child to a concert where he could see the cello and how it is played or else show him pictures or videos of it to capture his attention. It is better if you’ll let him hold and feel the instrument to trigger his interest. Make sure you ask the child if he really wants to learn the cello. No good will come of forcing a child to do a thing he doesn't want to do.
Children cello lessons should be just like a game to the child wherein he could play, enjoy and explore, but like a game there should be rules that he needs to follow in order to achieve his goal. An example could be the need to listen and do as the teacher says. The child will get to know the correct way to hold the cello, where to place his fingers, how to use the bow. Also how to read notes and perform complete pieces.
Constant encouragement, praises and rewards are needed to motivate the child for they are easily distracted and discouraged. They have very short attention span and will get easily bored with repetitions, unless they are absolutely interested in something. This is one of the reasons why some children do not finish a cello lesson. Continuous practice is crucial in learning cello and rewards such as candies and lollipops work well to encourage them to go on with their lessons. A regular practice routine should also be established to program the child’s mind that playing cello is already a part of his daily activities so that he would be well familiarized with it.
Let him perform first pieces of his favorite songs such as nursery rhymes to stimulate his interest and develop his passion. As his interest and passion deepen, gradually make him learn more complicated and advanced pieces of music to increase his ability. If he is capable of performing it with little or no difficulty and with oozing confidence then he is ready to take the stage and perform in front of the audience. Children cello lessons are not all about knowing the cello alone but as well knowing how to react and deal with whatever may happen on stage. The child is taught about humility when winning, to accept defeats and honor challenges that could mold him into a better cellist.
Teaching a child to play the cello will develop diversity in his skills. It could be the introduction to learning other instruments like the violin, guitar and piano. Cello is a wonderful instrument for a child to learn for it fosters the child’s hidden musical creativity that could bring out the best in him not only in the field of music but also in different aspects of his life.
