Training Your Dog Is Easier With A Good Electric Collar
It's always more prudent to research before you make the purchase, especially when you're planning to get electric collar for your pet. We cover some of those features.
The appropriate transmission range. This should be the first thing you decide on. Perhaps the range you need only covers that of a small backyard, where you will be taking your dog. But if you have to train sheep or working dogs, a greater range is definitely needed. The transmission range can affect price and other features the units might have, so find one that suits you.
Indicators for how far your dog is, and how much battery power you have left. These indicator features are useful, since you want to know if your dog is still within effective transmission range (if it goes outside, the collar won't respond to your signal); you also want to know when the batteries on both the transmitted and collar's receiver are going to run out. If you're out on the park or are using the remote training collars in a large area (such as a farm on some hunting ground) this features might come handy. The same goes for battery indicator features. It's always good to know when both the collar and the transmitter are running low on power.
Signals you can hear clearly. It's always reassuring to hear a sound after you pressed or clicked on something, as a way of knowing that something happened. It's good because when you activate a static correction on the transmitter, a sound is heard, telling, if the dog's collar's sound is within earshot, where your dog is.
Rechargeable batteries - no need to keep buying new ones. Some electric collar models come with detachable batteries - the standard kind that needs to be replaced with new ones. Since not every dog owner keeps bringing with him or her new sets of batteries, it's better to go with a model with batteries you can recharge both in your home and in your own car.
No barriers to clear transmission. Some models relay on FM signal for unmatched transmission clarity. That means your transmitter can reliably send signals to the collar even when you find yourself in hilly, wooded, and urban areas with so many buildings.
Multiple dog capability. Although you may just settle for a training collar for your dog, it can be handy to be able to "expand" the collar's capacity to involve more collars, for more dogs.
Controls you can understand as you tinker with it. In the age of the iPhone when user interface and ease of use can make or break a product, you want a transmitter for your electric collar that won't give you a headache just to figure it out. So shop one that you think, after reading up on reviews about some models, offers an intuitive user experience.
