The Architectural Highlights of Your Travel to Spain
Architecture tells a poignant story about what a country has been through to get where it is at the present; it sounds overly passionate, but it’s true that the key to a country’s past is hidden in plain sight in the form of concrete and non-tangible cultural evidences. Spain is one of those countries that sincerely put much store in protecting their cultural legacy through conserving architectural structures. This isn’t exactly shocking, given the beauty that the speckled architectural structures increase Spain’s landscape.
As a first time tourist in Spain, it may be somewhat of a discouraging task to find your way around and to discover all of the amazing architectural structures alone. This includes being able to convey what you need in times of emergencies or in times of immense assistance, like when you need a doctor, a cab, or instructions on how to get to the embassy. Until now, some of the oldest prehistoric architectures that can be found in Spain are in the Balearic Islands, Avila, and Santa Tecla. There are many structural designs that indicate how people have already been burying their dead and creating tombs for them. The walled villages in Avila and Santa Tecla also show that there was already some kind of road or street system in place during that time; structures in these places are globular in shape and made of stone walls with thatched roofs on top of them and a prop in the middle to support the thatched roof.
For example, during the time when Rome was conquering nations left and right and was hell bent on taking over the world, naturally the architectural trends in Spain was completely affected. Such influences include an increase in the building of churches like the temples of Cordoba and also of burial grounds similar to the modern ones we have these days. There were also changes in the kinds of structures being erected during those times; more religious structures were made, and this was the start of the construction of many opulent churches in Spain.
As Spain becomes more changed by French and German styles of architecture, buildings favored a more Gothic type of influence. However, things change and so does the architectural trends in Spain; Roman influence was bit by bit changed by Gothic influence. This cathedral also has the distinction of being the very initial Gothic structure ever to be erected in Spain.
There are many other marks that history left with Spain, and staggeringly, much of these marks are well-preserved. It’s quite interesting how much you can figure out of a country’s history just by watching the trend of architectural designs around their landscape.
