Spirit $5.48 Winner of Britain’s “The X-Factor,” Leona Lewis debuts with a mix of pop and R&B. She is blessed with a vocal range that’s so versatile, in songs like “Better In Time,” that one may immediately compare her to Mariah Carey or BeyoncĂ© Knowles, especially in “The First Time I Ever Saw You.” It’s not Lewis’s fault that her voice doesn’t distinguish her from these stars, but her producer, Simon Cowell… |

Where to Find a Quality Karaoke System
Karaoke Music: A fad where an amateur (or professional) singer performs a popular song along with a specially prepared disc that supresses lead vocals, with a microphone and self contained audio system-- simply put, a karaoke system.
Karaoke literally means "empty orchestra". Karaoke music comes from Japan, where it is a highly popular form of entertainment.
The concept of recording music in a studio, sans vocals, has been around for quite some time. Many times a new artist will perform to a karaoke of his or her original music because it is quite cost prohibitive to transport an entire band or orchestra to a gig. This is quite different from lip-synching, which is another type of studio produced music, however the lead vocals are still intact, thus allowing the artist to merely mime the performance.
Although it was invented in the 1970's in Japan, a Filipino inventor names Roberto del Rosario has the patent for the karaoke machine.
Karaoke machines are generally a hybrid of a music playback device (usually CD or DVD), a microphone, and a self-contained speaker system, much like a portable public address system. Most systems also allow for maniuplation of pitch and playback speed that allows the performer to change the key the music is played in so that a song can be customized to the particular performer’s vocal range, but still maintain the original tempo of the recording. Older, cheaper models try to let the user play regular audio discs while supressing the vocal internally, but this technology is out of date and produces lower quality sounds. Lots of newer units include lighting effects systems and enhanced video displays.
This craze of karaoke music didn't hit big in the US until the 90's. Karaoke was popular entertainment in nightclubs and lounges across the country. Even themed restaurants and non-professional recording stuidos started to pop up, which allowed aspiring artists the option to use commercial karaoke systems to record.
In-home karaoke machines, while wildly popular in Asia, lacked widespread appeal in most western countries. Karaoke machines began being marketed as home theater systems, with a karaoke feature on the side. Since American Idol's popularity, video game spin-offs of the show have boosted the sale of stand alone karaoke machines as well.
Karaoke music might not be as popular as it used to be, but it still has a strong following in the nightclub and bar scene, with some venues devoting their entire stage to karaoke performances.
Younger consumers love in-home karaoke machines because they allow them to emulate pop stars.
Some of the best places to find the best deals on quality singing machines are online e-tailers. The Singing Machine is the best example of karaoke at its peak. Ever since it first opened as the first in-home karaoke equipment retailer in the US, the Singing Machine has captured the imaginations of millions of singers with its highly innovative and quality karaoke machines. Some newer models include iPod compatibility, propelling karaoke to a whole new level. Since then, The Singing Machine has maintained its position as the industry leader in designing, manufacturing and e-tailing quality in-home singing machines by offering cutting edge consumer electronics technology and obtaining exclusive licensing agreements with Bratz, Care Bears and MTV.
