Guitar Apps On Mobile Computers - Will They Replace Online Guitar Lessons?
If it feels like each week there's a new mobile computer or device coming out that's probably because there is. Whether it's an iPhone or Tablet PC there isn't much we can't do from a plam sized super powered device we can take with us any where.
So this begs the question, as a would be guitar player are devices powered by Android or the iPhone threatening to replace online guitar lessons and dvds? Over the past 5 years more adults have been using online lessons and dvds to teach themselves how to play guitar, is another change about to occur?
The Pros of Mobile Guitar Lesson
A big plus of learning to play guitar from lessons available on a mobile device is that ideally they're always with you. You can learn at the cottage, camping or on vacation so long as you have a guitar handy.
Of course the draw back is the screen often isn't very large for this purpose, which can make it might tough to learn scales and intricate chords.
The Cons of Mobile Guitar Lessons
The largest con is what I mentioned above, screen size, but there are others. Chord charts work fine but actual video lessons can be a pain on a mobile device. Also the bandwidth needed to watch and sometimes re-watch lessons can cost you big bucks depending on your data plan from your wireless provider. Also some formats of video playback often aren't supported in the stripped down operating systems provided on devices like an android powered device or iphone.
The Reasons Online Lessons are Here to Stay
These devices do have a place for guitar players, they're generally for reference Online lessons will also be able to offer more advantages and value to players of all skill levels. You can get more content in an online site, better support and more formats of video just for starters.
Additional resources such as jam tracks, support forums and live webcam lessons just can't be offered via a mobile device due to storage, compatibility and bandwidth limitations.
