Rock T Shirts And Rock N Roll - A Music Renaissance

Rock n’ Roll will never die, and the same goes for rock t shirts. Rock T shirts are one of the highest sellers of the garment industry, mainly because of the popularity of Rock n Roll. Below is a brief history of rock music, inspiring not only generations of T shirt designs but also an entire culture and lifestyle. The term 'Rock-and-Roll' was picked up from the popular song, "My Baby Rocks Me with a Steady Roll", by a Cleveland jockey named Alan Freed in 1951. Sexual-innuendo-containing music was considered to be Rock-and-Roll in the 1950's. Influenced by a host of distinct styles of music, including blues, jazz, and country, the music comprised of a divergent rhythm and a loud electric guitar. With the advent of the 1960s, the United States saw a distinctive kind of Rock-and-Roll music - one with heavily accented beats, electronic amplification, and simpler and more youth-oriented lyrics. The entire world embraced rock music and made it soar in popularity during this decade. This music, called Rock n' Roll, achieved much during the following decades and it was Chuck Berry, who started the wild, crazy, jail-break type of music that deserves all the credit. The dazzling popularity that rock music achieved in the 1960's did not, however, come without major setbacks and a perilous journey. The deaths of Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens, Little Richard becoming a preacher, Elvis being drafted, and Jerry Lee Lewis and Chuck Berry being charged criminally, are only some examples. Alleged sexual relations with a 14-year-old waitress landed Chuck Berry, the lord and master of Rock n Roll, in jail for three years. Rock n' Roll would have died a premature death due to these scandals had it not been for what became the British invasion. December 17, 1963 is a landmark date in music history as this is when America first heard the Beatles and their hit song "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" on the WWDC radio station. Rock n' Roll had arrived. On January 18, 1964, “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” became the Number 1 hit in the United States and on February 9; the mop-headed quartet finally reached American soil as they performed on the Ed Sullivan Show. According to the CBS Evening News, "Beatlemania" led the British invasion this time. The exaltation that the British group commanded did not abate till they disbanded in 1970. Rock music achieved unsurpassed eminence in the 70s and produced both fame and wealth for its proponents. No Rock concert was left with an unsold pass and rock stars became Gods. The adulation that rock music saw in the 70s led the way to subsequent merchandising in the form of T shirts and other band products. Rock music gave birth to some of the most popular and distinct forms of rock music like blues rock, jazz-rock fusion, psychedelic rock, progressive rock, glam rock, and heavy metal. The latter half of the 70's witnessed the entry of punk rock onto the music scene which also became a vent for political and social expression. Punk rock and its' memorabilia made the way for the subsequent music forms like New Wave, post-punk, alternative rock in the 1980's, which in turn created the base for indie rock, Brit pop and rock metal. The 80's and 90's gave birth to musical and cultural icons that became and still are household names. Some of these are Kiss, Madonna, U2, Prince, Jon Bon Jovi, and Metallica, among many others. These amazing artists led the way in shaping American music and the industry in general as we know it today. Rock n Roll has surpassed just being a music form today. It dominates the movies, sporting events, and fashion. Rock T shirts are a gentle and persuasive reminder of this musical revolution.
